Several years ago I woke up…..
While standing at a fork on a gravel road surrounded by beautiful meadows in a preserve near my house, I experienced a moment that completely changed the course of my life. I had been in a unhealthy relationship and felt lost and alone. I had outgrown the career I’d loved and knew it was no longer serving me. I was so completely focused on pleasing others that I didn’t know who I was or what I wanted.
As I stood at this fork and watched my six-month-old golden retriever hopping over the tall grasses and wildflowers, an overwhelming sadness consumed me. I felt stuck and yearned for a change. I wanted to feel the freedom and joy that my beautiful puppy embodied.
This fork in the road clearly mirrored my life. In one direction, I would continue doing what I knew was causing me pain and unhappiness. The other direction led into the unknown, a monumental risk. The choice was clear. Though I had been dying a slow death, I knew I wanted to live and on that day my life changed forever. I chose to take a huge leap of faith and walk away from all that I knew in order to find what I was called here to do.
I took a journey…. and that journey led me home.
Over the next three years I traveled the majority of the United States with my dog, Grace. I immersed myself in solitude and faced a lot of my fears. Grace taught me how to live in the present moment and live life to the fullest. She has been my most powerful teacher.
